Reviews:
- Wine Enthusiast: This wine is ripe, full of strawberry flavors and crisp acidity. A tangy, zesty texture brings in citrus and a touch of minerality. Drink this immediately attractive now.
- James Suckling: Very pale apricot-pink color. Delicate aromas of sliced apple, pink grapefruit, peach, cream and stones follow through to a medium body and crisp acidity. Deliciously creamy and smooth. Drink and enjoy.
Producer Information
Château d’Esclans is a wine producer in Provence, specializing in full-bodied, dry rosé wines primarily from the Grenache wine grape variety. The flagship wine is the top-of-the-range Garrus cuvée, which is one of the most important (and highly priced) rosé wines in Provence. It was first produced in 2006 and was met with high acclaim. Since, only tiny quantities of the toasty, full-bodied and highly sought after rosé is made each vintage. It is also reputable for its entry-level Whispering Angel Rosé, which is exported around the world to multiple countries. The château was built in the 12th Century and is located on an elevated site, between Saint-Tropez and Cannes. About 44 hectares (110 ac) here are under vine, with Grenache, Mourvèdre, Cinsaut, Rolle and Syrah all represented. Some of the Grenache vines at the highest elevations are up to 90 years old, making them some of the oldest in Provence. These low-yielding vines give the d’Esclans wines concentration and richness.
