Reviews:
- Wine Advocate: A blend of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot, the 2014 Oreno pours from this heavy glass bottle with a beautifully saturated color and dense consistency. You know this is an important wine just by looking at it. The bouquet reveals compelling aromas of dark fruit, Indian spice, pressed rose, leather and tobacco. The delivery is seamless and intense.
- James Suckling: Aromas of blueberries and blackberries with hints of minerals. Full body, very fine tannins with orange peel and currant character.
Producer Information
Tenuta Sette Ponti is an Italian wine estate in Tuscany, just east of the Chianti Classico zone. In addition to local vineyards, grapes are also sourced from the neighbouring island of Sicily. There are around 50 hectares (123 acres) of vines within the estate, which sits at around 300 meters (1000ft) above sea level. The soil, which is fairly consistent across the estate, combines clay, sand, limestone and Galestro stone, which is well-suited to the Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot that is planted here. Sette Ponti’s oldest vineyard is the 3ha (7.4 acre) Vigna dell’Impero (Empire Vineyard), planted in 1935 by the Count of Turin. Sette Ponti produces wines in several Tuscan appellations. These include Vigna di Pallino, an unoaked Chianti, and Anni, a blend of Sauvignon Blanc and Viognier. The estate also produces an Etna Rosso DOC and Etna Bianco DOC.
